Mango Fool – An easy dessert made with sweet, ripe mangoes and flavored whipped cream. A simple and quick summer treat to cool off during those hot days! Incredibly satisfying!
Did you know there are over a hundred, if not a thousand, mango varieties? We only had two types of mangos to content ourselves with while growing up in Cameroon. We called them mango one and mango two, seriously.
My favorite is number one because they’re quite juicy, sweet as candy, and have a greenish exterior even when ripe. Oh, how I miss it—like a child misses its blanket.
I’ve tried several varieties here in Los Angeles, but nothing comes close. During the summer, I have to settle for the underripe mangoes that are available, leave them out to ripen, and they do until I can get the good ones.
What Is a Mango Fool?
If you’ve never tried a mango fool or have never heard of it, fruit fools are an English dessert. It’s a delicious mix of fruit and whipped cream, almost like a parfait. They’re so easy to make with a short list of ingredients.
Feel free to switch the fruit with berries, papaya, peaches, pineapples, or any fruit combination. Ramp up the health factor by replacing the whipped cream with Greek yogurt. You can also lace the mango puree with 1-2 tablespoons of rum to spike this fool up. Oh, yeah!
Recipe Ingredients
- Mangoes are the star of this dessert. The riper, the better.
- Lime – The zest and juice add the perfect zing for balancing flavor.
- Whipped Cream – Heavy cream beaten with sugar, vanilla extract, and a dash of ground nutmeg turns any fruit into a delicious dessert.
How to Make Mango Fool
- Prep Mangoes – Peel and chop the mangoes.
- Reserve about ½ cup or more of chopped mangoes for garnish and assembling.
- Blend the remaining mangoes in a blender or food processor with the lime juice and 2-3 tablespoons of sugar—adjust sugar to your preference. Set aside.
- Whip Cream – Combine heavy cream with about 1 tablespoon of sugar, lime zest, and vanilla using an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Add additional lime juice, nutmeg, and sugar to taste. Mix on medium-high speed until peaks form.
- Assemble – Divide half the mango purée among the 6 glasses or bowls, layer each with a dollop of whipped cream, and repeat with the puree and whipped cream until everything is used. Top with the mango cubes and enjoy.

This recipe looks great! It’s too bad you have to miss your childhood favorite mangos. There’s such a huge difference between the flavors and they can also taste dreadful if you don’t have a good one. I love a delicious mango though. I will definitely save this recipe, it looks so summery and festive!
