Is There a Difference Between Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Parmigiana?
Also known as Italian Pollo alla Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana and Chicken Parmesan are both the same. It’s a popular Italian-American dish made of breaded chicken breast topped with a tomato sauce and cheeses – usually with mozzarella, parmesan or provolone cheeses. Some versions also topped it with ham and bacon.
Long before it was what it was known today, it was at first an eggplant parmesan in which slices of eggplant are breaded and fried before it’s layered with a sauce and cheese.
Can Chicken Parmesan be Frozen?
Yes, you can freeze Chicken Parmesan once it’s cooked through, but let it cool first before transferring it in an airtight freezer bag. Remember though, that you won’t able to achieve the same crispiness and texture like it was fresh-from-the-oven. And oh, don’t forget to label it with contents or dates.
What Should I Serve with Chicken Parmesan Recipe?
I could make an entire list on what goes well with this chicken parmesan recipe, but I’ll save it later. We”ll have a short list for now. You can serve it with any of the following:

More Baked Chicken Recipes
As for the cheese, I prefer using Parmesan and mozzarella, however, you could also consider using provolone. Morepver, for those who don’t have panko, regular breadcrumbs would work fine. You could as well use store-bought pasta sauce, marinara sauce or tomato sauce in replacement of the suggest homemade sauce linked in the recipe box.
Enjoy!
How to Make Chicken Parmesan
Heat a skillet or pan over medium-heat and add melted butter. After 1-2 minutes, add panko breadcrumbs, granulated onion, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and grated lemon. Mix well until combined. Remove from heat once breadcrumbs turn into light brown – around 2-3 minutes. Set aside. Preheat oven at 430 degrees F and lightly grease a baking try or baking dish with cooking oil spray. Set aside.
Cut 2 slices of chicken into 4 halves. Then season with Italian seasoning and salt and pepper. On a slightly shallow plate, whisk egg and dip chicken breast on it and coat it on a plate with the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure every surface of the chicken is covered. Shake any excess. You may let it rest in the fridge for 10 minutes or overnight to allow the coating to cling well.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry chicken until golden and crispy – about 4-5 minutes per side. Then place chicken on the greased baking tray .
Top each chicken breast with 1/3 cup of homemade pasta sauce, Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses and basil.
Baked chicken for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is melting and bubbling and the chicken all cooked through. Serve with lemon on the side or top it off with parsley.
