Fruits that Start with F are mostly healthy and enjoyable to eat, while some are bitter and too sour to eat. Others can be useful as fertilizers and glue or can be toxic if you eat them whole. Bright colors, unique names, and fruits you’ve never heard of before, all of these you’ll learn as you read along!
My son loves throwing random questions for fun. Yesterday he asked me, “Mom! Can you name a couple of fruit that starts with F?” I tried thinking and I can’t think of any. Well, except for Fuji apple. Technically they count as apple but hey, that’s the only answer I got without cheating.
So I got help from Mr. Google and I found these fruits start with F. You’ll be surprised with what I have on this list.
1. Fuji Apple
The most popular variety of apples and my favorite! Nothing beats its natural sweetness and the perfect crunch as you bite on it.
Aside from eating them fresh, they also make a delicious pie filling, cobbler, salad, cake, and cider.
2. Fairchild Tangerine Fruit
This fruit is like a fusion of Clementine mandarins and Orlando tangelos. It is pretty popular in the United States because of its sweet and rich citrusy flavor. You can see plenty of them in the market during the months of October to January.
3. False Mastic Fruit
Most of us love fruits because they are sweet and enjoyable to eat, but this one is on the bitter side.
They are edible but the sap is so sticky and gummy that it can be used as glue, some enjoy them like gum. Interesting, huh?
And if you’re a fan of tongue twisters, you’re gonna love its scientific name which is Sideroxylon Foetidissimum. 😉
4. Feijoa
Is also known as Brazilian guava, guavasteen, pineapple guava, and fig guava, commonly grown in South America.
Its skin is green when ripe and has a strong fragrant smell. Aside from being sweet and juicy, it’s also rich in vitamin C, fiber, and potassium. Awesome!
5. Fig
Fig has a unique squishy and grainy texture because of its soft and pulpy flesh and seeds. It’s naturally sweet comparable to honey rather than fruity.
Figs can’t survive in temperatures below 20°F that makes it kinda hard to find if you’re living somewhere in Midwest and the northeastern U.S.
6. Florida Strangler Fig
Commonly known as golden fig, is very nutritious and a good source of fiber, calcium, iron, and potassium.
It has a nice green color that changes to golden yellow as it ripens. It’s slightly sweet with nutty, buttery, and caramel flavor notes.
Pairs well with Roasted Chicken or Smoked Pork Chops, and can be added to salads and desserts.
7. Fascell Mango

This food with F is actually named after the man who cultivated this hybrid variety of mango, Michael Fascell.
It has a nice yellow and red gradient color as it ripens and mostly oval-shaped. It’s sweet like any other mangoes but surprisingly fiberless.
8. Finger Lime
Is Australia’s very own citrus caviar and now being grown in California as well. The way it’s eaten is like squeezing a jelly out from a packet.
It has a refreshing citrusy tart flavor which makes it an excellent substitute for lemon or lime. They are also great additions to dressing, sauce, jams, and cocktails.
9. Fazli Mango

This food that starts with the letter F is another variety of mango mainly grown in India and Bangladesh that is amazingly huge and can weigh up to 1kg each.
It’s sweet and a little sour, and often used to make jam, chutney, or pickle. The skin is very thin that it can be eaten like an apple.
10. Fe’I Banana

This banana is different from the yellow Cavendish banana. The peel is often red and orange while the inside resembles a pumpkin.
Its body is broad and shorter than regular bananas. As for the flavors, it has a combination of sweet and tangy flavors with a tender and starchy texture when cooked.
11. Forest Strawberries
Another example of a food that starts with the letter F. This fruit closely resembles strawberries but only tinier. And since they are small, they taste juicier and sweeter.
Poisonous? Nah! They are actually rich in Iron and Potassium which are beneficial to people with anemia. Small but terrible, huh?
12. Flatwoods Plum

This fruit that starts with F is known to be toxic when you eat its fruit pit and leaves in large doses. However, by taking them out, this flatwood plum is actually healthy and safe to eat. Intoxicatingly good, huh? It promotes good digestion and improves respiration.
13. Fox Grape
This food with F is also known as slipskin grapes because you can easily slide the meat of this grape from their skin. They are much sour than most grapes so they are often made into jam, jelly, and wine.
14. Five Flavor Berry
True to its name, you’ll taste 5 different flavors once you try this fruit. These flavors are sweet, bitter, sour, salty, and pungent. Amazing 5-in-1 flavors in 1 fruit!
They are often consumed dried rather than raw. Like this Five Flavor Berry Tea here, an example of healthy drinks that start with F.
15. Florida Cherry
I love how it looks like a cute little pumpkin. And the glossy and smooth skin with bright red and orange color is really wonderful.
If you want to enjoy this fruit, choose the ripe ones with a deep darker red to purplish-red. They are still refreshing to eat even if they’re tangy and sour.
16. Farkleberry
This uniquely named fruit is outright bitter and tart. They are edible and non-toxic but totally unpalatable for humans. However, they can be a great fertilizer and animal food.
If I hadn’t found about its taste, I would have tried it just because of its name. Haha!
17. Fibrous Satinash Fruit
The Scientific name of this fruit is Syzygium Fibrosum. I love its bright pink color which is very feminine. It also has a seemingly protruding “tail” at the bottom.
Because it’s sour, it’s more palatable and pleasant to eat as jam, jelly, and confectionery.
18. Fukushu Kumquat
The taste is similar to orange and tangerine combined. The whole fruit is edible including the skin and seeds. But I’d rather leave out the seeds just to be on the safer side.
It has a sweet, sharp, tangy taste with a hint of fruity and floral notes.
And because I had fun finding fruit that starts with the letter F, maybe I’ll make a version of vegetables that starts with F next. So, you better watch out for it! 😉
