Pineapple Ginger Juice (West African). This refreshing pineapple juice with ginger has just the right blend of sweet, spicy, and sour tastes. It hits the spot every time! 🤩
There’s so much to love about this tasty recipe. First, it’s ultra-refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. But it goes beautifully with meals that incorporate tropical flavors all year long. It’s also insanely easy to make. You only need three ingredients, or four if you count the sugar. Plus, you only need 10 minutes of hands-on time to prepare it.
That makes it pretty easy to get all those pineapple ginger juice benefits (digestive aid, anti-inflammatory, and immune system booster). My aunt swore by it, combining ginger, lime, and honey for the only remedy she used to cure a cold.
Pineapple Ginger Juice – Just How You Like It
Like all good recipes, you can customize this juice to your liking. Prefer ginger pineapple juice? Add more ginger! If you don’t care too much for sugary drinks, reduce the sugar or leave it out.
If you haven’t tried pineapple ginger juice before, I encourage you to make it per my recipe. I think I’ve found the perfect combo of sweet, spicy, and sour notes. You can always customize it afterward, or the next time you make it.
Recipe Ingredients
- Pineapple Juice – A cup or two of fresh pineapple juice is the foundation of this juice. Depending on how ripe the pineapple is, it can add quite a bit of natural sweetness. 🍍 For homemade pineapple juice, peel the pineapple, chop it, and puree it in a high-speed blender. Or add just enough water to the blender so the blades spin freely.
- Ginger root gives this juice that spicy kick that is absolutely irresistible. 💥
- Lime Juice balances the sweet and spicy notes with that delightful tang unique to limes. 💚
- Sugar – I always add sugar to my pineapple ginger juice, but it’s technically optional. Some people prefer to leave it out altogether.
How to Make Fresh Pineapple Ginger Juice
- Prep the ginger. If your ginger is organic, peeling is optional. However, the smaller you mince it, the stronger the ginger flavor will be.
- Ginger Tea – Mix ginger and hot water in a large bowl or glass jar. Let it sit for about an hour or more. Then, strain it with a cheesecloth or fine sieve and set it aside. (Photos 1-3)
- Simple Syrup – In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water and your desired amount of sugar to a boil. Simmer until the sugar dissolves. Allow to cool. (Photo 4)
- Pineapple Juice – Peel and chop the pineapple, then puree it in a blender. (Photos 5-8)
- Combine ginger water, pineapple juice, simple syrup, and freshly squeezed lime juice, stir, and serve over ice.
Recipe Variations
- If you want to be really happy and forget all your “wahala” (which means “troubles”), then add some rum to this juice. It makes quite a cocktail. 🍸
- Play with the citrus. You could add other citrus juices, like orange or lemon juice, along with or in place of the lime juice.
- Want even more health benefits? Add ground turmeric root and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.
- Make it a smoothie. Add some of this juice and a frozen banana to the blender. Mix it all up for a tropical smoothie. 🏝️
Tips and Tricks
- I used fresh pineapple in this recipe, but store-bought pineapple juice works just fine when pressed for time.
- If your pineapple is super sweet, reduce the sugar or eliminate it completely.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice is a breeze if you buy a handheld lime squeezer. You just cut the lime in half and squeeze it to get all the juice out (and no seeds) in mere seconds. It’s worth the investment if you ask me.
Make-Ahead Instructions
This homemade juice is perfect for making ahead. Just follow the recipe instructions and refrigerate it in a pitcher for a day or two until you are ready to serve it.
Serving and Storage Instructions
Serve the juice over ice in a pretty glass for maximum refreshment. Up the aesthetics by garnishing it with a slice of lime and pineapple chunks on the rim or a sprig of mint leaves. 😍
What Goes With Pineapple Ginger Juice
I always bust out the pineapple ginger juice when I make Caribbean food. Try it with coconut shrimp, aloo (potato) pies, or one-pot Caribbean jerk chicken and rice. It also goes well with desserts like key lime pie or, better yet, no-bake key lime mango coconut cheesecake pie. 🤤

If I boil the ginger in the water then allow it to cool can this reduce the prep time …
imma africanbites says
I wouldn’t recommend so ’cause boiling the ginger in the water would result to a stronger ginger-y taste.

Hi, great recipe! How do you derive the juice from the pineapple? I’m assuming you blend the pieces of pineapple? Thanks!
imma africanbites says
Hi. You can use a juicer to squeeze all the juice from the pineapple or you can use your blender following the steps in this article >>> http://bit.ly/2HKUpYo . If you’re pressed with time you can use store-bought pineapple juice. Let me know how it works for you.

Do you know if this DRink is good without the ginger just pineapple and sugar.
ImmaculateBites says
It is still going to taste good. However, it would not have that piquant taste of ginger.

I love this juice but I usually just put the pineapple and the ginger through the juicer. I’ll try this method soon.

Hi, please do you boil the ginger and also do you later blend it to get the juice out of it?
Imma Adamu says
Yes you can boil ginger. Folks often do when they drink it with tea in the morning. but to get all of the juice and the ‘chaff’ it does make sense to blend it. If you have a serious blender you would be surprised how easily it can blend and after a while you get used to the ‘pulp’however, its really up to you and your pallette. Either way, ginger is a really good herb to have in the drink. You can’t go wrong either way. Enjoy
