Strawberry Margarita

Hello, Friday! This popular Strawberry Margarita drink screams nothing but the weekend!

Not only that it’s super simple to make, but you can also serve it in many ways depending on your mood. And since I’ve been binge-eating these tortilla chips and guacamole for this blog’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, why not throw in a margarita drink to complete our virtual party.

And of course, if you just want a virgin strawberry margarita, then skip the alcohol part and just stir in good fresh sparkling water or soda. Bottoms up!

What is the Difference Between Strawberry Daiquiri and a Strawberry Margarita?

Another cocktail that is close to my heart is this Strawberry Daiquiri. Daiquiris and margaritas are somehow closely related to each other. The only difference is that a daiquiri uses rum, while a margarita uses tequila. But more or less they both taste as good as they look!

Strawberry Margarita Ingredients

This easy margarita recipe uses just a handful of ingredients and is very simple to throw together. You’ll just need

  • Hulled Fresh or Frozen StrawberriesNaturally delicious berries that gives a distinct tangy sweetness. It also gives a vibrant red hue.
  • Fresh Lime JuiceExtracted from fresh limes. this has comparatively higher sugars and acids than lemon
  • Tequila – Happy hour isn’t complete without this alcoholic drink.
  • Triple secan orange-flavored colorless liqueur made from dried peels of bitter and sweet oranges. If you don’t have one handy, a Grand Marnier (a mix of Cognac and distilled bitter orange and sugar) is a good option.
  • Simple SyrupA liquid sweetener that’s often used for beverages. Check out this easy guide so you can make one at home.
  • Ice
  • Lime Wedges and Coarse Salt for the Rims – Drinks deserve some garnish too!

A Grand Marnier (a mix of Cognac and distilled bitter orange and sugar) is a good option. Last resort would be adding the real thing, by that, I meant orange peel/zest or juice for a non-alcoholic version.

If you don’t want to go into the trouble of making your own simple syrup (one part water and one part sugar- see instructions down below), feel free to swap it with honey or agave syrup.

What Tequila is Best for Margarita?

When it comes to making margaritas, I’d always go with blanco, silver, or white tequila. It’s fruitier compared to others, which is just perfect for me since I’m not that much of a drinker (surprise! lol 😂 ). Of course,  feel free to swap it with your favorite brand of tequila. For other choices, you might want to check out this list of TEQUILA HERE.

Recipe Variations

  • More strawberries. Want the drink to be fruitier? Then add more strawberries to it.
  • Fruity mix. You may also throw in other kinds of fruits in the mix like mango (see my MANGO MARGARITA HERE, too), banana, kiwi, peaches, pineapple, and other types of berries.
  • Roasted berries. Do you think strawberries are boring? Try adding roasted strawberries in this cocktail instead. You’ll be blown away!
  • Add a bit of heat. Add a nice kick of heat into your drink by cutting a jalapeno lengthwise and steeping it undisturbed in a glass of tequila for about 20-30 minutes, depending on your heat preference. Then pour the tequila in a fine mesh and discard the jalapeno. Finally, add that jalapeno tequila into the blender and voila!
  • Mocktails for everyone. For a non-tequila version, swap the tequila with soda or sparkling water. Kids would love that!

Margarita

  • Add chopped strawberry, lime juice, tequila, triple sec, simple syrup and ice to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into rimmed glasses and serve immediately, garnish with sliced lime and or strawberry.

Tips & Notes:

  1. NO need to thaw frozen strawberries. They actually make your margarita thicker and keeps the cold a little bit longer.
  2. If you want it thicker, add more ice or less ice for a thinner drink. If it turns out that the drink is too thick for your liking, thin it out by adding liquid a little at a time.
  3. Triple sec is an orange-flavored colorless liqueur made from dried peels of bitter and sweet oranges. If you don’t have one handy, a Grand Marnier (a mix of Cognac and distilled bitter orange and sugar) is a good option. Last resort would be adding the real thing, by that, I meant orange peel/zest or juice for a non-alcoholic version.
  4. If you don’t want to go into the trouble of making your own simple syrup (one part water and one part sugar- see instructions down below), feel free to swap it with honey or agave syrup.
